Tasty Tomato Sauce Recipes

What comes to mind when you consider tomato sauce? If you are like most people you will probably be envisioning a plateful of pasta topped with this sauce, or even a pizza or another Italian dish. Italian cuisine does make heavy use of tomato-based sauce recipes, but so do other cuisines. Tomatoes are technically fruits not vegetables, but they are versatile enough to make many different kinds of tomato sauces, from the basic Italian tomato sauce perhaps spiked with garlic, herbs or even chilies or hot pepper, to meaty tomato sauces featuring meat drippings, pieces of meat, or other earthy ingredients. Something else you might not have tried (but is really good!) is sweet tomato sauce drizzled over a cheesecake, which might sound unusual but tastes incredible.

Making Tomato Sauce from Fresh

Although tomato sauce can be started by opening a can of whole or chopped tomatoes, you can also start it with passata (sieved tomatoes) or tomato concentrate, or even fresh tomatoes. Some sauces, many in fact, combine a number of these, to add complexity to the flavor, and also help to get the right texture. You cannot go wrong with a rustic tomato sauce if you are looking for something to serve over pasta or vegetables, or you might prefer to choose something a bit spicier to go over your meat. A very thick tomato sauce is nice to top a pizza before your toppings go on, while a thinner one can soak into your rice or grain, to add moisture and flavor appeal.

Hello, I'm Christine. Thanks for dropping by and welcome to Amazing Sauces. Food is a very important part of our family's lives, and I find a homemade sauce often finishes a dish perfectly. Whether you are making something with chicken, beef, pork, vegetables, an appetizer, or even a dessert recipe, a sauce is often the ideal finishing touch.

You will find many sauce recipes here, all conveniently in one place, from the classics like tomato sauce, béchamel sauce and cheese sauce, to gravies, marinades, and unusual ideas for sauces too like ginger-plum sauce or gorgonzola sauce.

Some sauces can be drizzled over the meal, while others are best served on the side. Some will work as a dip or sauce, while others are great for basting, marinating or adding a splash of color to a recipe. Try our creamy gravies with your breakfast, one of our international steak marinades for a sophisticated spin on dinner, or learn how to make a classic béarnaise or rich red wine sauce to complement your dish.

Thanks for visiting,

Christine
